About Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy is a form of psychotherapy used to create unconscious change in the patient in the form of new responses, thoughts, attitudes, behaviours or feelings. It is undertaken with a subject in hypnosis
Hypnotherapy is a skilled verbal communication, used during hypnosis (sometimes referred to as a state of trance), which helps direct a client’s imagination in such a way as to bring about alterations in sensations, perceptions, feelings, thoughts and behaviour.
At the beginning of any treatment I will ask you questions about your previous medical history, general health and lifestyle. We then will decide together on the changes or goals that are desired and the direction that treatment can take.
Crucial to any therapy you need to feel supported, listened to and not judged, I offer a safe place for you to speak about the problems or difficulties you are having in an honest and open manner. After the initial assessment it is likely that I will take you into a state of Hypnosis. This can be done in different ways, guided visualisations and progressive muscle relaxation are just two of the techniques that can be used.
In hypnosis you will experience a deep state of relaxation, you will be in control at all times and you cannot be made to anything that you don't want to. (There are a number of myths about Hypnosis the most common being the Hypnotherapist is in control and can make you do things you do not want, simply not true - if you do not want to quit smoking hypnotherapy will not help). Hypnotherapy is a way of enabling change by activating your inner resources in order to achieve realistic goals.
After a session you will receive a CD or MP3 self-hypnosis track, it is important for you to listen to this to enhance the work done in the session. (This is included in the cost of the session)
The issues that Hypnotherapy is best placed to help fall into the following broad classes:
Additionally I can utilise Eye movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing therapy when working with any of the above to further enhance treatment.
